Jessica's Top 40: Dolores O'Riordan Tribute Show

Dolores O'Riordan, singer of The Cranberries, passed away at age 46 on January 15, 2018.

On January 20, 2018, five days after Cranberries frontwoman Dolores O'Riordan passed away, DJ Jessica did a special Jessica's Top 40 tribute show devoted to her music with The Cranberries and solo. DJ Jessica was very heartbroken by the news of Dolores' death as The Cranberries have been one of her favorite bands for many years and fell in love with Dolores's voice the first time she heard "Zombie". In a message board post in response to the news, DJ Jessica wrote:

I apologize in advance... this is more than likely going to turn into an essay.

This one hurts SO MUCH omg. I still can't believe it. Like most alternative artists I was late to the party with The Cranberries, as I got into them around 2005-2006 when I was about 13 years old. I still remember the first time I heard "Zombie". That was the moment I fell in love with Dolores and her voice. What a kick ass song. Still one of my favorite songs ever. Discovering that led me to discover so many other great songs from them like "Linger", "Dreams", "Ode To My Family", "Ridiculous Thoughts", "When You're Gone", "Salvation", "Free To Decide", "Just My Imagination", "Promises", "Not Sorry", "I Can't Be With You", "Stars", "New New York", "Analyse", and a bunch of other ones that I forgot to mention and will kick myself for not mentioning later.

I remember in 2006 my family and I went to the movies to see "Click" with Adam Sandler and there was a running joke throughout the movie that involved "Linger". At the end she made a cameo appearance and I was glowing in the theater the moment I recognized that it was her.

I remember for my 14th birthday, one of the CDs I got was "Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?". I was SO happy!

I remember how PSYCHED I was for her solo album "Are You Listening". "Ordinary Day" and "When We Were Young" were huge #1 hits on my chart (the former being my #1 song of 2007). I still listen to most of the songs on that album on a regular basis and is one of my favorite albums of the last decade. [Fellow M4B member] Josh may not like me very much for bringing this up, but I remember he made a poll here on the boards asking who between the two of us liked "When We Were Young" more, and EVERYONE voted for me. They weren't wrong. 😉😛

Even the more recent stuff was great. I loved "Tomorrow", "Schizophrenic Playboy", and "Why".

I never even got to see them live, and they were on my bucket list. 😞

RIP to one of the most iconic voices of the 90's ❤️
